PR Sound Song

This PR sound song is one of a series of guruparents phonics songs.

The song introduces the diagraph by featuring 12 words starting with pr, including some sight words.

Kids songs are a good way for a child to start to learn to read – and this one is set to a catchy rap tune, features lots of colorful pictures and has a simple rhyming pattern. It is also a good song to introduce the pr sound for someone who is learning English.

To adults, the ‘pr’ sound blend may appear so obvious as to not need to be taught. While it is no doubt true that children able to ‘sound out’ words should have no trouble with this sound, the key is speed. By being able to recognize the ‘pr’ letter pairing and therefore not need to sound it out, a child is reading that little bit faster than they otherwise would.

And speed is vital, not least because the sooner a child learns to read at a reasonable pace, the sooner they will be able to read books purely for pleasure – one of the hallmarks of a good student!
