Letter A Song

This Letter A Song gives an introduction to the a sound – specifically the ‘a’ sound heard at the start of ‘apple’.

This phonics song features 12 common words beginning with A. Each word is spoken clearly and distinctly – aimed at making it easily heard and understood by preschool and kindergarten children.

We’ve chosen a simple, colorful image to go with each word and have then stated a feature of each A word in a simple rhyme, set to a catchy beat.

The aim is that children enjoy saying the poem to the beat and come away with an enhanced awareness and memory of the sound made by the letter A.

For the sake of clarity we have not included any words in which a has a different sound – for example, words such as ‘apron’ or ‘ate’ where it takes the long a sound.
